Rahul Dagar scored his maiden first-class century and his partnership with Chaitanya Bishnoi bailed Haryana out on Day 1 of their Ranji Trophy 2018-19, Elite C, Round 5 against Tripura.
At stumps, Haryana had made 258/7 with Harshal Patel unbeaten on 11.
The decision to bat first in Agartala backfired for Haryana captain Harshal with Tripura reducing them to 45/4 inside 20 overs.
Manisankar Murasingh gave his team the first breakthrough to put an end to a steady start when he trapped opener Nitin Sainai (8) in the 11th over. Then Himanshu Rana (23), Rahul Dalal (5) and Pramod Chandila (1) departed in the space of five overs to leave their team in all sorts of trouble.
Bishnoi and Dagar joined forces to guide them out of trouble. They added 172 runs between them to neutralise the advantage Tripura bowlers had gained early on.
The partnership was broken by Harmeet Singh with the wicket of Bishnoi who departed after hitting 82 off 196 deliveries which had eight fours in it.
Dagar went on to score a century and fell off the very last delivery of the day, becoming third victim of Ajoy Sarkar. Both Ajoy and Manisankar Murasingh took three wickets each while Harmeet chipped in with a wicket.
Brief Scores: Haryana 258/7 (Rahul Dagar 114, Chaitanya Bishnoi 82; Ajoy Sarkar 3/47, Manisankar Murasingh 3/54) vs Tripura on Day 1
