Odisha were 78/4, with a deficit of 57 runs against table-toppers Rajasthan on the opening day of their Elite C Round 6 match of the Ranji Trophy 2018-19 season at Bhubaneshwar on Friday.

Put into bat, Rajasthan folded for 135 with pacer Basant Mohanty snapping six wickets to cap off a super bowling effort. He first had opener Chetan Bisht trapped leg-before for a duck in second over and then saw the back of the other opener – Amitkumar Gautam – for another duck three overs later.

Rajasthan then suffered a middle order collapse as they slumped to 58/5 in the 22nd over. Rajesh Mohanty, the architect of Rajasthan’s downfall, snapped three wickets to leave the visitors in all sorts of trouble.

Rajasthan captain Mahipal Lomror then batted bravely for his 85 – his sixth first-class half-century – but with no support at the other end, his innings was brought to an end by Basant after Lomror, who tonked 14 boundaries in his 105-ball knock, edged it behind to be the last wicket dismissed.

TM Haq dismissed the other opener, Shantanu Mishra for 7. Subhransu Senapati was dismissed for nought by Haq, while captain Biplab Samantaray added just 8 before he was trapped lbw to Choudhary.

At stumps, Odisha had Debasish Samantray (30*) and Abhishek Raut (22*) at the crease.
