A round-up of the Elite B Group matches on day one of Round 2 of the 2018-19 Ranji Trophy
In a dramatic day at the Chaudhry Bansi Lal Cricket Stadium in Lahli on Monday, Jharkhand were able to gain a first-innings lead against Haryana after bowling them out for a paltry 81, but not before slipping to 120/6 on the opening day of Round 2 in the Elite Group C of the Ranji Trophy 2018-19 season.
Opting to bat, fast bowler Ajay Yadav’s four wickets scripted Haryana’s downfall at home. After wicketkeeper-batsman Navdeep Saini departed for 1 off Rahul Shukla, Yadav reduced Haryana to 51/3, accounting for the next two wickets – Shubham Rohilla (36) and Chaitanya Bishnoi (0). A batting collapse then ensued with as many as eight Haryana batsmen registering single-digit scores. For Jharkhand, Shukla claimed three wickets, while experienced pacer Varun Aaron snapped two.
In reply, Jharkhand’s first innings was not without drama. Pacer Ashish Hooda ran through the top order as Jharkhand slumped to 62/4 in the 19th over. However, captain Ishan Kishan managed to stem the flow of wickets and remained unbeaten on 23, while Anukul Roy was not out on 1 as Jharkhand were 120/6, with a vital lead of 39 runs at stumps.
Brief scores: Jharkhand 120/6 (Ashish Hooda 4/32) lead Haryana 81 all out (Ajay Yadav 4/24) by 39 runs
