Half-centuries from Shreyas Gopal and Devdutt Padikkal shepherded Karnataka to 348 for 7 against Gujarat on Day 2 of the Ranji Trophy Elite A match in Surat. Karnataka, resuming on 45 for 2, lost most of their middle order batsmen without contributing much But Gopal and Padikkal, and later an unbeaten 74 from Srinivas Sharath ensured that Karnataka stretched their first-innings lead over Gujarat to 132 runs.
Overnight batsmen Ravikumar Samarth and Padikkal began positively on Day 2 and took Karnataka over 100, before Axar Patel cleaned up Samarth and shortly after, Piyush Chawla had Krishnamurthy Siddharth sent back for 17. At The big wicket arrived in the form of Padikkal, who, after scoring 74 became Axar’s second wicket.
With Gujarat sniffing an opening, Karnataka, from 171 for 5, fought back through Gopal and Sharath, who combined for a 117-run stand for the sixth wicket. Gopal was unlucky to miss out on is century by seven runs as Arzan Nagaswalla removed him to pick up his second. Krishnappa Gowtham scored a quick 22 off 18 before Nagaswalla struck again. At stumps, Sharath and captain Vinay Kumar were the two unbeaten batsmen.
