Elite Group A Day 4

Defending champions Vidarbha took three points after their round 7 clash of the Ranji Trophy with former champions Gujarat petered out into a draw on the fourth and final day in Nagpur.

Gujarat made 214/6 in their second innings after having conceded a first innings lead of 164 runs. Rujul Bhatt top-scored with an unbeaten 64 while Karan Patel and Manprit Juneja contributed with 42 runs each.

Akshay Karnewar took a second five-wicket haul of his first-class career, finishing with figures of 5/73 from 43 overs.

After resuming on 22/1 on Day 4, Karnewar removed overnight bateman Kathan Patel on 25. A direct-hit from Rajneesh Gurbani caught Bhargav Merai short of his crease which left Gujarat in a spot of bother at 64/3. But a 51-run stand between Manprit and Rujul followed which took them past the three-figure mark.

However, two quick strikes from Karnewar again signalled trouble but Karan Patel played a good hand in a solid 86-run partnership for the sixth wicket to ensure Gujarat take a point from the contest.

Brief Scores: Vidarbha 485 drew with Gujarat 312 and 214/6 (Rujul Bhatt 64; Akshay Karnewar 5/73)
