Elite Group C Day 4

Fighting fifties from Amit Verma and Lakshay Garg resurrected Goa’s chase but Assam had the last laugh as Arup Das took six wickets to help them secure a thrilling seven-run win on the fourth and final day of their Ranji Trophy 2018-19, Elite Group C clash at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium, Guwahati.

Needing 52 runs to win after the match resumed on Day 4, Goa lost well-set Verma to Arup Das after the addition of 13 runs to their overnight tally of 166/6. That wicket ended his partnership with Garg that helped Goa recover from the depths of 78/6.

Arup then removed Amulya Pandrekar (5) in his next over but Garg kept the contest in balance, moving to 73 with the help of seven fours and two sixes. The score went past 200-run mark and Goa needed runs 16 runs to win with two wickets remaining.

Arup then landed the body blow when he completed his fifer by pinning Garg in front to leave the visitors 202/9. The last-wicket pair of Krishna Das and Felix Alemao tried pushing their team nearer to the target but Arup ended their struggle.

Krishna was out lbw on 2, becoming Arup’s sixth scalp as he finished with figures of 6/67 to bowl out Goa for 210.
