Rahul Shukla struck twice to set up a close finish to Jharkhand’s Ranji Trophy 2018-19, Group C, Round 5 fixture vs Odisha. The visitors finished the day on 81/3, chasing 260 at the JSCA International Stadium Complex in Ranchi on Saturday.
Shukla gave Odisha two early blows reducing them to 33/2 inside 11 overs. Varun Aaron then got rid of Anurag Sarangi who had bedded himself in at 41 off 48.
Subhranshu Senapati (20*) along with captain Biplab Samantray (10*) did well to not allow Jharkhand any further success.
That visitors have been left chasing a stiff target was thanks to a superb unbeaten hundred from Saurabh Tiwary who batted well with the tail, especially with the last man Ashish Kumar (6) in a 78-run stand.
Jharkhand lost Ishank Jaggi early in the day after he bowled by Basant Mohanty for 35. He then trapped Sumit Kumar lbw for 13, leaving the hosts losing half their side for 135.
Tiwary though was solid at the other end and found an able partner in Anukul Roy as they took the total to 168 before Suryakant Pradhan removed the latter on 20.
Jharkhand had scored 210 when Rajesh Mohanty removed Rahul Prasad for his fourth wicket. However, Tiwary went on to complete his century, and remained unbeaten on 132 off 220, hitting eight fours and sixes to. He had extended the lead to 259 before Dhiraj struck to remove Ashish.
