With Saurashtra chasing down a target of 372 runs set by Uttar Pradesh in the quarter-final of the Ranji Trophy 2018-19 season at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow on Saturday, a new record was set.
Saurashtra’s total is now the highest successful chase in Ranji Trophy history, surpassing the effort of Assam against Services in the Ranji Trophy 2008/09 (Plate Group B) match during which they chased down a target of 370.
Earlier this season, Rajasthan had successfully chased a total of 356 against Services in a Group C match making it the third biggest run chase at that time, but it has now been pushed to the fourth place.
Saurashtra, after conceding a lead of 177 runs to Uttar Pradesh made a remarkable comeback bundling out UP for 194 in the second innings and then rode on U-19 World Cup winner Harvik Desai’s 259-ball 116 and 76 and 73 from Cheteshwar Pujara and Sheldon Jackson, respectively to overhaul the steep target.
Saurashtra total of 372/4 is also the sixth highest fourth innings total in Ranji Trophy history.
