Ranji Trophy Plate Day 4

Abhishek Nayar took a five-wicket haul to bowl Puducherry to a big win against Sikkim on Day 4 of their Ranji Trophy 2018-19, Plate Group, Round 5 match in Wayanad.

Following on, Sikkim were bowled out for 241 in their second innings with Nayar claiming 5/76 while Pankaj Singh taking 3/40 as Puducherry won by an innings and 159 runs on Sunday.

Milind Kumar remained unbeaten on 77 continuing his excellent form this season, witnessing the innings crumble around him. Sikkim resumed the day at 105/3 but lost their overnight pair in the space of 11 runs. Pankaj had Karma Bhutia caught for 10 in the second over of the morning session. Five overs later, Nayar struck with the scalp of the other overnight Jahan Uddin (5) with to leave them 116/5.

Milind found some support from Bipul Sharma as the duo took the score past the 150-run mark but were separated by Akshay Jain when the latter was stumped on 18 off 47.

Milind managed to take the score past 200 runs with the Nayar running through the tail.

Lee Yong Lepcha, Dinesh Rai, Mandup Bhutia combined for a total of eight runs. No. 11 Ishwar Chaudhary fared much better hitting two fours and as many sixes before perishing on 22 off 20 with the team being bowled out in 76 overs.

Earlier, Paras Dogra’s record double-century had helped Puducherry to a mammoth 647/8d. Pankaj and Rohit D combined to bowl out Sikkim for 247 after which they were asked to follow-on.

Puducherry recorded their second win and claimed seven points while it was Sikkim’s third defeat of the season.
