In a turn of fortunes on day three of round two of the Ranji Trophy 2018-19 in Plate group, Mizoram found themselves 166 runs adrift of the target with eight wickets in hand heading in to the final day against Arunachal Pradesh at DSA Stadium, Jorhat on Wednesday. Starting the day at 251/5 and with a lead of 329 runs, Arunachal went on to add further 80 runs to the lead for the loss of five wickets. Overnight batsman and half centurion – skipper Kamsha Yangfo – was the first to depart, early on day three for 58, but Obi ensured that he took the team close to the 300 run-mark with a 172-ball 80-run knock. No.11 batsman Subhash run-a-ball 24 took Arunachal’s total to 331, thus setting Mizoram a steep target of 410 runs. However, Mizoram, who were bundled out for 142 in the first innings got off to a speedy start with Akhil Rajput and Hruaizela adding 52 runs for the first wicket. Hruaizela added just eight runs to the total before falling to Doria.
Rajput them found company in Taruwar Kohli, formerly of Punjab, and duo added 157 runs for the second wicket before Rajut was scalped by Kshitiz Sharma for 124. At close of play on Day 3, Kohli was unbeaten on 85 with skipper Mikal on 11 not out.
