Bihar are just five wickets way from completing an innings win against Mizoram in their Ranji Trophy 2018-19, Plate, Round eight clash in Jorhat. At the close of play on Day 2, Mizoram were 81/5 after being asked to follow-on.
Bihar declared their first innings after posting a mammoth 440/9. Captain Ashutosh Aman (111), who struck a maiden century on the first day to lead a remarkable recovery, added three more to his overnight total before becoming Taruwar Kohli’s only victim of the innings. Vivek Kumar completed his maiden first-class century and fell to HM Ralte who completed his five-wicket haul. Vivek scored 102 off 93 with 18 fours and a six.
In reply, Mizoram innings crumbled against the bowling of Samar Qadri who finished with career-best figures of 6/19 from just 7.5 overs. Six of Mizoram batsmen failed to disturb the scoreboard. Only Akhil Rajput managed a double-digit score – 49 off 107 as he cut a sorry figure while watching wickets tumbling like nine pins at the other end. They were bowled out for 77 in just 35.5 overs.
They have fared a tad better after batting for a second time during the day. After losing opener C Lalrinsanga (1) cheaply, Akhil Rajput and Taruwar Kohli added 40 runs for the second wicket before Quadri struck to break their stand. The wicket of Rajput (30) triggered a slide as from 56/1, Mizoram slipped to 80/5.
At the close of play Kohli was unbeaten on 30 while Sinan Khadir was batting on 1 with Mizoram still 282 runs behind.
Brief Scores: Mizoram 77 and 81/5 f/o (Taruwar Kohli 31*; Ashutosh Aman 2/7) trail Bihar 440/9 by 282 runs
