Former India international Pankaj Singh claimed 7/21 in 16.4 overs to bundle out Mizoram for 92 on day one of round 4 of Ranji Trophy 2018-19 season at CAP Siechem Ground, Puducherry on Wednesday.
Puducherry then took the lead in quick time for the loss of two wickets and went on to score 163/3 when stumps were drawn,taking a lead of 71 runs.
After choosing to bat first, Mizoram, who are at the bottom of the table with one point from three matches, lost openers Akhil Rajput (13) and Hruaizela (4) to pacer Fabid Ahmed before Pankaj ran through the middle-order in no time. Pankaj removed the key player Taruwar Kohli for 4 for his first wicket and then added the scalp of Rauta (0) in the same over.
Puducherry skipper Abhishek Nayar then got rid of Sinan for 17 before Pankaj got rid of Sailo (3), skipper S Zorinliana (0), HM Ralte (14), Mikal (25) and G Lalbiakvela (7)as Mizoram crashed to 92 all out in 54.4 overs.
In reply, Puducherry, who have four points from two games, got a good start with openers Thalaivan Sargunam and M Vikesh adding 70 runs for the opening wicket. Lalbiakvela removed Sarguman for 35 and nine overs later, experienced Paras Dogra was cleaned up by Sinan for 2 runs. Skipper D Rohit also failed to get going, scoring just 12 before falling to Zorinliana. But M Vikesh got to his fifty and remained unbeaten on 79 and had the company of Abhiskek Nayar (19) at stumps.
