Sikkim found themselves tottering at 48/5 on day two of round five of Ranji Trophy 2018-19 season after Puducherry posted a mammoth 647/8d in their first innings at the Krishnagiri Stadium, Wayanad on Friday.

Starting the day at 418/4 -courtesy Paras Dogra s 253 – Puducherry scored a quick pace with Fabid Ahmed scoring 99 off 161 balls while Saju Chothan added 81. The duo put on 172 runs for the fifth wicket before Chothan wa removed by Ishwar Chaudhary for his second wicket of the innings. Soon after Ahmed departed to Dinesh Rai, missing out on a century. Rai then proceeded to remove Pankaj Singh for 0 while Lee Yong Lepcha accounted for Ranjit Bhaskaran for 6. Abhishek Nayar made an unbeaten 30 off 66 before Puducherry decided to declare their innings.

In reply, Sikkim were off to a horrible start with Pankaj Singh removing opener Bibek Dayali for two while debutant Abhijeet Saranath got rid of Sikkim skipper Nilesh Lamichaney for a 17-ball duck. Puducherry skipper Damodaren Rohit then got into the act and picked two wickets in the form of Ashish Thapa (14) and Jahan uddin (16). Pankaj added his second removing Lepcha for 0.

Sikkim slumped to 48/5 and at close of play Milind Kumar was in the middle unbeaten on 4 with Karma Bhutia on 2 off 27 balls, trailing Puducherry by 599 runs.
