After conceding the first innings lead on day two of round seven of the Ranji Trophy 2018-19 season, Bihar made remarkable recovery against Nagaland and finished day three primed to take full points from their sixth game.
Starting the day at 155/3 and with debutant Mangal Mehrur on 129 and MD Rahmatullah on 55, Bihar rolled on to 504/8 declared, setting Nagaland a stiff target of 446. Bihar bowler’s then reduced Nagaland to 112/7.
Mehrur went to compile 177 before being cleaned up by Abrar Kazi. Rahmatullah scored 107. Down the order Utkarsh Bhaskar made a quickfire 46 off 63 balls while Vikas Ranjan added 53 of 74. No.10 Vivek Kumar added made 28 off 37 balls to take Bihar’s total past the 500-run mark.
Set to chase a total of 446, Nagaland lost their openers Sedezhalie Rupero (4) and Hokaito Zhimomi (6) to pacer Vivek. Vivek added his third in the form of Imlawati Lemtur for 12.
Spinner Ashutosh Aman then got two in two in the form of Paras Sherwat and Kazi to reduce Nagaland to 22/5. Vivek then got his fourth of the day removing K Pawan for one. Aman added his third in the form of Tahmeed Rahman for 14 as Nagaland finished the day at 112/7, still 334 runs adrift of the target.
Only spinner Rongsen Jonathan put up some kind of resistance scoring an unbeaten 57 and has debutant Inakato Zhimomi for company batting on 18.
