Bihar batting collapsed before a strong comeback saw them finishing the Day 1 at 389/7 in the round eight clash of Ranji Trophy against Mizoram in Jorhat (Assam).

After being sent in, Bihar were off to a decent start with the openers adding 31 runs before HM Ralte wreaked havoc. He first removed the openers Babul Kumar (12) and Indrajit Kumar (26) in successive overs before trapped No. 3 Mangal Mehrur for 7. By the 15th over, they had been reduced to 60/4 before some semblance of recovery began. That ended when Anshuman Gautam was pinned in front for 28, breaking his 46-run stand with MD Rahmatullah.

Soon Ralte (4/88) struck again with Bihar losing half their side inside 36 overs. But from the depths of 117/6 followed a remarkable recovery. Rahmatullah was at the centre of it as he joined forces with captain Ashutosh Aman in a century stand.

Rahmatullah was himself unfortunate though as he missed his century by just a single when he was run out on 99. He consumed 156 deliveries and struck 11 fours during a 127-run stand for the seventh wicket. However, he had done the job – Bihar had reached 244/7 in 62 overs.

Mizoram would have hoped this would foil Bihar’s progress but that wasn’t the case. Aman went on to complete his century in the company of Vivek Kumar who himself will be eyeing triple-digit score when the play resumes on Monday. At the close of play the duo had added 145 runs in an unbroken stand for the eighth wicket. Aman was unbeaten on 108 while Vivek was on 94.

Brief Scores: Bihar 389/7 (Ashutosh Aman 108*, MD Rahmatullah 99, Vivek Kumar 94*; HM Ralte 4/88) vs Mizoram
