Puducherry wrapped up a bonus-point win over Manipur inside two days to claim seven points from their Ranji Trophy, round eight clash in Ananthpur on Monday.
Having set a paltry 13 runs to win, Puducherry wasted no time in chasing it down in 1.1 overs to win by 10 wickets.
Resuming on their overnight total of 150/2, Puducherry were bowled out for 238 in 78.2 overs. They lost captain D Rohit early on Day 2 on 26. Thokchom Kishan the struck twice in as many deliveries accounting for Vikneshwaran Marimuthu (37) and Raiphi Gomez (0).
Kishan ran through their lineup to finish with figures of 4/65. While wickets kept tumbling at one end. Fabid Ahmed dropped anchor at the other to ensure his team ended with a sizeable lead. He struck 41 off 72 and was the last man to be dismissed as Puducherry were bowled out for 238, taking a lead of 106 runs.
Manipur’s second innings was almost a mirror reflection of their first. Yashpal Singh, as was the case in the first essay, struck a half-century – 52 off 83 – which was also their top-score. Apart from the seasoned veteran, four of their other batsmen recorded figures in double-digits with none crossing 16. Pankaj Singh was the pick of the bowlers taking 4/20 while Rohit chipped in with 3/22. Manipur were bowled out for 118 in 31.5 overs with a slim lead of 12 runs.
