Rajasthan batsmen continued to grind Tamil Nadu bowlers on the final day to extend their overall lead to 530 before declaring their second innings at 204 for five at tea in the Ranji Trophy final at Chennai.
Rashmi Rajan Parida was unbeaten on 43, while Dishant Yagnik was not out on nine.
Robin Bist missed out on a deserving century when he was dismissed for 92. Six runs later, Puneet Yadav was bowled for naught by Ramaswamy Prasanna.
Earlier, Tamil Nadu bowlers made early inroads bagging three wickets in the first session of the day.
Tamil Nadu’s part time bowlers Prasanna, Murali Vijay scalped a wicket each while frontline bowler Jagannath Kaushik dismissed Rajasthan opener Aakash Chopra for 18 runs.
The final day’s play has now been rendered inconsequential as the match as a contest is already over.
Kudos to Hrishikesh Kanitkar who has now successfully lead the team to successive national titles. It’s a story that will be discussed in the cricketing fraternity for years to come.
The team may not consist of best of talents but they have a dedicated bunch of cricketers who have made all the pundits who had termed their last season’s triumph as fluke, eat a humble pie.
Tamil Nadu players on the otherhand would certainly feel that they have lost their best chance to win the trophy.
Brief Scores: Rajasthan 621 all-out (Vineet Saxena 257, Aakash Chopra 94, Hrishikesh Kanitkar 67, Robin Bist 57; Aushik Srinivas 4 for 192, Jagannathan Kaushik 3 for 91) & 204 for 5 (Robin Bist 90, Rashmi Parida 43*; Ramaswamy Prasanna 3 for 31) lead Tamil Nadu 295 all-out (Dinesh Karthik 150, K Vasudevadas 44; RR Singh 4 for 76) by 530 runs
