Ratnakar Shetty, vice-president of Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has emerged as the most likely candidate to replace Late Vilasrao Deshmukh as the president of MCA.
As per the MCA’s constitution, a vacancy for an office bearer’s post in such a situation has to be filled by a member of the managing committee.
“As per the MCA’s constitution, the managing committee will decide who will be president. The new president should be selected among the current office bearers. And one member from the managing committee will be upgraded to that particular office bearer’s post. The closest runner-up from the MCA election will then be added to the managing committee,” said PV Shetty, joint-secretary of MCA.
Shetty is currently employed with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) as the Chief Administrative Officer. He faces competition from Ravi Sawant, the current treasurer of MCA.
However, Shetty is said to have played a major role in the developments of the MCA and shared a lot responsibilities of the work when Deshmukh was the President.
“He is aware of the whole situation in the MCA and has been a prominent figure here for close to a decade or two. There is no doubt that Prof. Shetty has vast knowledge and is the ideal candidate for the president’s post,” a managing committee member was quoted as saying the Indian Express.
