Ravi Sawant elected new MCA president

Ravi Savant defeated vice-President Ratnakar Shetty for the post of the President by 10-5

Ravi Sawant was on Friday elected as interim president of Mumbai Cricket Association, in place of the late Vilasrao Deshmukh who died earlier this month.

Sawant, who was the treasurer in MCA’s 17-member managing committee defeated vice president Prof Ratnakar Shetty 10-5 in the election on Friday, with one abstention.

Earlier, Ratnakar Shetty, had emerged as the most likely candidate to replace Late Vilasrao Deshmukh as the president of MCA.

As per the MCA’s constitution, a vacancy for an office bearer s post in such a situation has to be filled by a member of the managing committee.

Mayank Khandwala took over as treasurer. Joint Secretary Nitin Dalal, who is presently abroad, remained absent.(PTI)
