Following quite a drama for the past few weeks, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Tuesday unanimously elected Ravi Shastri as the new Team India coach. Shastri, who was previously the managing director of India on a few occasions, will take up the coaching role for the first time ever. Earlier on Monday, the BCCI had postponed the announcement of the new Indian coach, citing reasons of discussion with Indian skipper Virat Kohli. However, BCCI’s Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) on Tuesday asked the BCCI to go ahead with the announcement, as BCCI did so by Tuesday evening. Shastri appointed as India Head Coach till 2019 World Cup

Therefore, Shastri’s first assignment with the team will be the upcoming Sri Lanka tour, where the first Test starts on July 26. He was among ten applicants who applied for the position earlier in July. He was interviewed by the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC), comprising of former cricketers Sourav Ganguly, Sachin Tendulkar and V V S Laxman, on Monday after being included in the shortlist of six names. Besides Shastri, Virender Sehwag, Lalchand Rajput, Richard Pybus, Ravi Shastri and Tom Moody were interviewed by the CAC. Following this news, the Twitter world erupted as reactions started pouring in from all over, as reported by ANI.
