Former Team India Director Ravi Shastri has hit back at Sourav Ganguly saying that he was already on a vacation in Thailand when the BCCI called him to appear for the position of head coach and the interview was conducted via skype as per BCCI’s conditions. Shastri and Kumble were the two candidates, who the board had chosen as their final two, but the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) went in favour of Kumble. Shastri had earlier slammed Ganguly for not being present when he was making the presentation. He further went on to allege that Ganguly was being disrespectful to the whole process. Ganguly responded saying that one should not be vacationing in Thailand when an interview for one of the most prestigious jobs in cricket in conducted.

“I got communication from the BCCI on the 19th [June] that the interview is on the 21st,” Shastri, who is back home in Mumbai, told ETPanache. “I had left for Thailand on the 15th. No one knew at that time when the interview would be. And their mail categorically said that since it [the interview call] is at short notice I could make myself available on Skype at a particular time.” READ: Ganguly: Shastri should have shown bit more maturity

Shastri agrees with the fact that he should have been there in person, but the BCCI had given him the option of video conferencing. “Ideally, yes [should’ve been there in person]. But I was out of the country and the BCCI did give me the option of Skype. Besides, Tom Moody and some other candidates did the interview on Skype. What’s the difference? In this day and age, half the world operates on video-conferencing.”
