As the special committee appointed by Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) elects the new head coach of Indian cricket team, Ravi Shastri has revealed that committee member Sourav Ganguly was not present during his interview. BCCI had appointed the trio of Sourav Ganguly, Sachin Tendulkar and VVS Laxman to take the final call on the coveted post of Team India head coach which has been vacant for a long time now. The committee, after interviewing seven finalised candidates, elected Anil Kumble as the new coach. Ravi Shahtri, who was one of the potential names for the post following his stint with the team as Director, has now said that during his interview, Ganguly was not present there. Reported Indian Express, the former player said, “Meeting was great. Some great questions from VVS, Sachin and Sanjay (Jagdale, BCCI convenor). I put my way forward for the team. They wanted to know how do I plan to do well in all formats, how we should look at fast bowlers, and things of that sort.” While asked upon why there was no questions from Ganguly, Shastri revealed, “Well, actually he wasn’t there.” When asked further if he wanted to know about the reason of Ganguly’s absence, he said, “That I can’t ask na. I responded to the questions asked and as I told you there was some good questions from the three, and it was a great meeting.”

It is known that Ganguly attended a working committee meeting with Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) members from 5pm to 6pm, the span when Shastri was interviewed. Tendulkar was connected over Skype from London while Jagdale and Laxman were present at the venue, Taj Bengal, Kolkata, to interview Shastri, who was connected over video chat from Bangkok. Ganguly was absent for comments.
