Popular TV actor Gautam Gulati will play the role of former Indian cricketer Ravi Shastri in the forthcoming biopic “Azhar“. The film is based on the life of former India skipper Mohammad Azharuddin. When asked if he is playing Shastri in the movie, he said, “Yes, I am doing the film. But I am not allowed to speak anything. “I can’t talk about the project in detail,” Gautam, who shot to fame after stint in “Bigg Boss”, said. Actor Emraan Hashmiis playing the role of Azharuddin in the biopic. According to sources, Gautam has been chosen to do the role of Shastri as he fits the bill. The biographical sports film directed by Tony D’Souza is based on Azharuddin, who was involved in a match-fixing scandal in 2000. Apparently, the film features actress Prachi Desai and Nargis Fakhri as Azhar’s two wives Naureen and Sangeeta Bijlani, respectively.
It came as a surprise to the Indian audience when it was first announced that a biopic is being made on arguably the most controversial Indian Cricket team captain ever. The trailer for the movie was unveiled during the latest edition of ICC Cricket World Cup in presence of Azharuddin himself. The film has already made a lot of buzz and is expected to consist of many behind stories.

Azhar, who has many records after his name and captained India for most of the ’90s, was involved in an act of match-fixing and was banned for life from cricket by Board of Control for Cricket in India( BCCI) initially. Later on, the ban was cleared by Andhra High Court.
