Ahead of India’s 500th Test, which will be played against New Zealand at Green Park, Kanpur, spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has revealed his top moments from Tests played by the Indian side. Ashwin is surely one of the best spinners in contemporary cricket and is among the top three wicket-takers across the formats since 2010, which speaks about his achievements and contribution to the Indian team. As per the expectations, Ashwin, who is close to complete his 200 wickets in Tests, will once again be the leader of the pack. If he does that in the first match, he will be the second fastest bowler to do it in Tests after Clarrie Grimmett of Australia.

Coming back to his top moments in Tests, the first one was a predictable one from him as it is none other than the famous match between India and Pakistan in 1999, in which his idol Anil Kumble became the first Indian to take all 10 wickets in an innings. The second one is from another famous Test, which was played between India and Australia in 2001 at Kolkata, where VVS Laxman and Rahul Dravid batted the entire day on day 4 of the match without losing their wicket. Laxman scored 281, while Dravid made 180 and India won that game dramatically by 171 runs after following-on in the first half of the match.

The third one is not very famous but it came in a match which India badly needed to win to erase the memories of the miserable performance in 2007 World Cup. It was the Test series win in England under Dravid’s leadership, which India won by 1-0. This was India’s third Test series win in England since 1986. Moving to the fourth one, it is that series, where Ashwin was part and the main player for the Indian side. It was the home series against South Africa in 2015, which India won 3-0 and not to forget that the Proteas were the top Test team at that time and were unbeaten in any overseas Test series since 2006.

The fifth and final was the series win against Sri Lanka on the Lankan soil, where again Ashwin was the player who made the series win possible for India. India made their comeback in the series after losing the first Test by winning the next two. This was India’s first series win in Lanka after 24-years.

Well, these top moments are surely among the best moments in Indian Test cricket. Watch Ashwin speak about these matches here:

Further, BCCI posted a short clip where coach Anil Kumble can be seen asking to get ready for the historic 500th Test for India.

India will become fourth team to play 500 or more Tests in the history of cricket after England, Australia and West Indies.
