Ravichandran Ashwin picks up 150th wicket in India vs South Africa 2015, 1st Test at Mohali
Ravichandran Ashwin also picked up five wickets in the first innings to help establish a 17-run lead.
Ravichandran Ashwin picked up his 150th Test wicket on Day Two of the first Test between India and South Africa 2015 at the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) at Mohali. South Africa No. 11 Imran Tahir was Ashwin's 150th victim and he ended up with five wickets in the first innings. Ashwin became the fourth Indian off-spinner to claim 150 wickets or more after Bishen Singh Bedi and Harbhajan Singh. Ashwin's five wickets helped India bowl South Africa out for 174, therefore establishing a 17-run lead over the Proteas. AB de Villiers top-scored for South Africa with 63. Skipper Hashim Amla too offered some resistance on his way to 43. With India taking the first innings lead, it will be important that they establish a lead of over 200 to put any pressure on their opposition. With Dale Steyn not bowling in the second innings due to a groin injury, India will feel that they have an upper hand in the match at this stage. Leading wicket-takers for India in Tests
On Day One, India had won the toss and elected to bat first. India went into this match with three spinners. Ravindra Jadeja, who has not played a Test for over a year finds a place in the side after an impressive show in the domestic circuit. He and Amit Mishra supported Ashwin very well as they notched up the remaining five wickets between them. South Africa have Imran Tahir as their main spinner along with Simon Harmer.
