Half-centuries from Ambati Rayudu (57) and Kedar Devdhar (66) powered Baroda to a 18-run win over Gujarat in the West Zone Twenty20 tournament at SCA Stadium here today.
Yusuf Pathan also contributed in Baroda’s victory as he scored 39 runs and then took two wickets.
Invited to bat, Baroda posted a challenging 177 for four wickets and then restricted Gujarat to 159 for 8.
Baroda did not have a good start, losing opener and skipper Pinal Shah (0) in the first over itself.
But Rayudu and Devdhar took full advantage of Gujarat’s poor fielding and stitched together 109 runs for the second wicket.
Devdhar scored 66 off 46 balls with seven fours and one six. He also added 53 runs for the third wicket with Pathan, who scored 39 off 34 balls with two fours and two sixes.
For Gujarat, Amit Singh took two wickets conceding 22 runs in his four overs.
Chasing a victory target of 178, Gujarat batsmen put up a lacklustre performance and fell short of 18 runs despite a fighting 53 made by opener Asad Pathan.
Bhavik Thakkar (26) was the other notable contributors from Gujarat.
