David Wiese put in a great all round show for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in his first ever Indian Premier League (IPL) game despite which his team lost. However, he was atken aback by the support he received from the RCB crowds. He picked four wickets and smashed 47 runs and even though it came in a losing cause the crowd appreciated his effort. “The support that RCB have here is unlike anything I have ever seen in the world. It’s just unbelievable to have the backing of such a massive crowd and a real pleasure to play for them,” Wiese said in praise of the packed house crowd at the M Chinaswamy. Wiese was all praise for his teammate and countryman, AB de Villiers, who hammered 41 off 11 balls and said it made him feel inadequate as a batsman to bat alongside de Villiers. “It (batting with de Villiers) makes you feel a little bit inadequate as a batsman at times, the way he plays. He is a truly unbelievable player and the best in the world right now. It was an incredible experience batting with him,” Wiese told iplt20.com.
He went on to explain that de Villiers’ effort with the bat had the bowlers on the backfoot which made it easier for him to capitalise and hit big. “AB just shifted the momentum totally towards us. It is a lot easier to go in to bat when the bowlers are on the backfoot.”
