Virat Kohli lost the toss and found himself in the middle opening the innings with Parthiv Patel, and despite a lucky break eaely on, he departed cheaply, but Patel’s 24-ball 43 took RCB to 70/1 in the powerplay overs.

In the middle overs, RCB lost way losing three wickets for just 39 runs between overs 6  to 14. However, de Villiers and Marcus Stoinis (46*) saved RCB the blushes with a 121-run stand in just 66 balls to take their team to a formidable total. SCORECARD: RCB vs KXIP

In reply, KXIP too had a good start scoring 68/1 in the first six, despite losing Chris Gayle for 23 off 10 balls to Umesh Yadav. But KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal drove KXIP’s chase with a stand of 59 runs for the second wicket. However, RCB were right back in the game removing both the well-set batsmen in a span of four runs. HIGHLIGHTS: RCB vs KXIP

Agarwal was undone by a Stoinis length ball that Agarwal tried to pull, but failed to time it well and was caught at midwicket. He went for 35 off 21 balls. Rahul departed in the next over after scoring a breezy 42 off 27 balls to Moeen Ali, caught at long-off by Tim Southee.

Washington Sundar and Moeen then send down a few tidy overs to bog down KXIP. David Miller failed to get going and was caught in the deep for 24 off 25 balls. Pooran though kept KXP in the hunt with three straight sixes off Sundar and went on to celebrate his ICC World Cup inclusion with a quickfire 46 off 28 balls, but fell in the 19th over – to Navdeep Saini. Umesh Yadav had 27 to defend off the final over and after coping a six from R Ashwin, Umesh returned strongly with two wickets in two balls to restrict KXIP to 185/7.
