If anybody had lingering doubts about the relaid wicket at the Wankhede Stadium, which is to stage the April 2 World Cup final, don’t bother.

The relaid wicket was put to the test on Saturday when it hosted the semifinal of the Mumbai Cricket Association-conducted T20 Trophy tie between Fort Vijay and Mumbai Police.

It is learnt from MCA sources that the Wankhede deck behaved up to expectations. It may be mentioned here that the Stadium underwent a major facelift and Saturday’ match is the first competitive tie to be played at the ground since May 2008.

The Wankhede Stadium would host two World Cup league games – New Zealand vs Canada on March 13 and New Zealand vs Sri Lanka on March 18 besides the coveted final.
