Former Australian captain Richie Benaud, who played 63 Tests for Australia, became one of the legends names in cricket commentary.
Benaud made his debut as BBC radio commentator in 1960, later on moved to television. He turned into a full-time commentator, first working for BBC before he joined Australia’s Channel Nine in 1999.
Benaud commentated in almost 500 Test matches. His final act as a commentator in England came during the 2005 Ashes Test at Oval. An announcement was made on the public address system and every one at the ground, including the players, gave Benaud a standing ovation.
In November 2009, Benaud signed a three-year deal with Channel Nine, agreeing to be involved with them till 2013. However, he wasn’t involved in ball-by-ball commentary.
