Ricky Ponting, the two time World cup winning former Australian captain picked India as on of the favourites to win the ICC Cricket World cup 2015. “I think India will be one of the favourite teams of the World Cup. The four Tests and the tri-series will be important. While India will be playing them, it must be remembered that Australia will also be playing them.” He was speaking in the Salaam Cricket Conclave organised by “Aaj Tak”.

“Anyway, if India doesn’t win the Test series it shouldn’t matter. Remember, we had lost five One-day Internationals (ODIs) on the trot going into World Cup 2007. They called us ‘too old’. It doesn’t matter what they say, it’s about how good you are. India has played well, especially in the shorter formats under Dhoni. There is no reason why they cannot beat them,” he further added.

Talking about MS Dhoni’s captaincy Ponting said, “It is difficult to analyse from here. You can know how good he is handling batting, bowling, and fielding, but how do you know how well he handled the players in the dressing-room and have brought the best out of them?”
