All-rounder Riyan Parag is set to make his return to the Ranji Trophy with Assam’s seventh round clash against Saurashtra which is set to commence from January 30. The 23-year-old will be captaining the side in the match which will take place in Rajkot.
Parag last played competitive cricket in October last year when he featured for India in their T20I clash against Bangladesh. Since then, he has been sidelined with a shoulder injury which ruled him out of the T20I series against South Africa.
The injury also saw him be ruled out of contention for the England T20I series and Champions Trophy. A successful return to the Ranji Trophy could see him once again don the Indian jersey in the future.
In the previous Ranji Trophy season, Parag showcased his prowess with the bat, scoring 378 runs in six innings at an impressive average of 75.60. He also hit an astonishing 20 sixes during the season, becoming the leading six-hitter of the season.
Assam is still looking for their first win in the tournament as so far, they have drawn 4 and lost 2 out of their six games. While they are out of contention from making it to the playoffs, Saurashtra still have a good chance of qualifying, making the clash quite important for them.
Assam squad for clash against Saurashtra: Riyan Parag (C), Denish Das, Mukhtar Hussain, Mrinmoy Dutta, Rahul Singh, Dipjyoti Saikia, Parvez Musaraf, Sumit Ghadigaonkar (WK), Rishav Das, Anurag Talukdar (WK), Avinav Choudhury, Sibsankar Roy, Akash Sengupta, Pradyun Saikia, Amlanjyoti Das
