Cricket Australia chairman of selectors Rod Marsh feels since a lot of budding cricketers will play against experienced players in Matador Cup it is an opportunity for them to learn from seniors. Marsh added that the Matador Cup is a good platform for youngsters to make their case for a national call and that it is a brilliant pedestal for them to showcase their talent. According to Marsh if players perform at this level it will help them later on when they will play for their state teams and ultimately the national side. In a conversation with Sydney Morning Herald he said, “There’s nothing better than young blokes playing against experienced players because some of them will really come through and they’re the guys who could go on and represent their states and ultimately Australia. If they can perform at this level you know they either have a ton of ability or the ability to absorb pressure. When you have players with ability and character you have a good cricket team.” Meanwhile, budding talent Liam Hatcher who will play for Cricket Australia XI in the series said, “It’s a great opportunity. There’s some big names in the NSW team but I have to stick to my game and bowl how I know I can. I have to do my best for the team and try to get the job done.” Hatcher is a 19-year-old fast bowler.
