Rohit Sharma becomes 14th Indian batsman to score century on debut

Rohit Sharma continued his sensational form with a century on Test debut for India against West Indies on Day Two of first Test at Eden Gardens. Rohit has now become the 14th Indian batsman to score a century on debut. Rohit got to his ton with a boundary.
 
His bat sticker reads ‘TON’ and Rohit made his bat do the talking on a challenging surface to lead India’s fightback with a fluent ton. It was a trademark Rohit innings filled with elegant drives through the covers and most of the strokes timed to perfection.

He walked in at the fall of Sachin Tendulkar’s wicket when India were 82 for the loss of four wickets. Under pressure where Shane Shillingford dominated the proceedings, Rohit along with MS Dhoni stitched a valuable 73-run partnership. He consolidated India’s position by sharing another stand with Ravichandran Ashwin.
 
India now have two players scoring a century on debut this year with Shikhar Dhawan smashing a record 187 runs against Australia in March. Dhawan’s knock was the highest individual score by an Indian on Test debut.

Rohit is the third batsman to achieve such a feat at Kolkata. Mohammad Azharuddin (in 1984 vs England) and Deepak Shodhan (in 1952 vs Pakistan) had scored their century on debut at the same venue.
