Ross Taylor’s dismal runs against quality bowling attacks continued. An experienced campaigner and a brilliant exponent of the sweep shot, Taylor was expected to excel in Indian conditions. However, he was dismissed by Ravindra Jadeja for a duck on Day 3 of the first Test between India and New Zealand at Kanpur. New Zealand, who were cruising after winning four of the five sessions in the game, suffered due to this. Taylor still averages 122.33  this year. Impressive isn’t it? But 364 out of his runs have come against Zimbabwe. His scores against South Africa and India go, 2*, 1, 0 and 0.

Taylor, who has been New Zealand’s best batsman in the last 10 years, has now given away the title to Kane Williamson. He has had his occasional brilliances like the 290 at the placid Perth last year but overall his batting has suffered a slump. Nine years into international cricket, Taylor, 32, has not been living up to his massive reputation. These are years when batsmen peak but the same script has not followed Taylor.

In fact, from start of 2014 to end of 2015, he averaged just over 39 and this included the 290. With another duck to his name, he has done no good to this reputation. It was a 50-50 call though so cannot really be called a bat lbw decision from umpire. With Taylor and Kane Williamson both back in the pavilion, New Zealand face a daunting task ahead.

When your form goes, Twitterati sharpen their knives. Taylor suffered the same fate even on an early Saturday morning but you cannot stop the trolls, can you? Here are some tweets:
