Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) to sport green jersey against Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on Sunday. The green jerseys are made of recycled fabric, highlighting the franchise’s broader sustainability initiatives, aiming to raise awareness about conservation and the need to protect the environment.
According to an RCB press release, the team is a ‘carbon-neutral’ T20 franchise and aims to deepen fan involvement in its environmental efforts. The goal is to eventually become carbon-positive while promoting fan engagement throughout the season.
Speaking on the initiative, Rajesh Menon, COO, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, said, “For us it is about being bold, both on and off the pitch. Our green jerseys are more than just a symbol; they are a call to action.” Rajesh Menon said
“As proud representatives of the Garden City, sustainability is a natural priority for us. Through this initiative, we aim to leverage the cultural and social power of RCB to drive awareness and inspire fans to take small steps towards conservation.” Menon added
RCB’s sustainability efforts are both extensive and data-driven. The franchise conducts regular carbon audits to monitor its environmental footprint across all operations.
Throughout the season, RCB evaluates the carbon footprint of players, support staff, and the cheer squad, including emissions from travel and hotel stays for both home and away games. Additionally, waste produced at the stadium is analyzed based on type, enabling a thorough understanding and management of the team’s total environmental impact.
RCB has also asked the fans to take a pledge to conserve energy, making them active participant in the sustainability movement.
