Shubman Gill has turned out to be a great captain for Indian team in the Test format. He played impressive innings of 147 in the first match, followed by a record-breaking outing of 269 in the second match. Prior to the series, there were lot of questions on Gill being given the team responsibility, but he silenced everyone with his spectacular performance.
Soon after his knock of 269 runs, an old video a young Shubman Gill sharing his views about Test cricket has resurfaced and has gone viral.
(This was said in Hindi, and has been manually translated to English)
“You have to keep in mind that this is Test cricket. If you get dismissed early on, then the whole day you have to sit out and you will gain nothing from that. That’s why the more you are at the crease, the more runs you can score, which you can’t do if you are sitting out. This is why you have to keep in mind to not play flighted shots, play grounded shots as much as you can. Sure if it is a loose ball- like a full-toss or something- than a big shot is acceptable. The main motive i to have that tag of India,” Shubman Gill said in the video.
Yes, Shubman Gill… you didn’t just lead — you ruled.

From the heart of Punjab to the soul of Indian cricket,
You’ve shown the world what royalty on the pitch looks like.
Not just a captain — a force, a fire, a future written in gold.

Speaking about the outing of 269 runs by Shubman Gill, it was the highest score by an Indian outside Asia. With his score, Gill broke a long-standing record of legend Sachin Tendulkar- wh0 had scored 241 runs in Sydney in 2004. Apart from that Shubman also secured his name as the third from the country after Sunil Gavaskar and Rahul Dravid to score a double century in England.
