Senior batsman Sachin Tendulkar has congratulated Indian shooter Vijay Kumar for winning India its second medal, clinching the silver in the men’s 25m rapid fire pistol event at the London Olympics.
“Vijay Kumar’s super performance makes us proud. Silver medal for India and now its Gold medal’s turn. Come on India!!” Tendulkar wrote on his twitter page.
The 25-year-old Vijay, who is a subedar with 16 Dogra Regiment, took the spotlight with a stunning display of precision shooting at the Royal Artillery Barrack shooting ranges on Friday.
Vijay kept his composure in the tense final where he shot 30 for a total of 585 to clinch the silver medal, only the second such medal since Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore won one in the Athens Olympics in 2004.
Rathore, himself, also congratulated Vijay.
“I am so proud to be indian today, so proud to be from the Indian Army and so proud to represent Indian Shooting; thank you Vijay Kumar,” he tweeted.
In the final, where a new eight-round elimination format has been introduced, Vijay displayed consistency with scores of 5, 4, 4, 3, 4,4, 4, 4, 2. (PTI)
