Sachin Tendulkar, who retired from cricket on Saturday after 24 glorious years while playing for India, praised his brother Ajit’s contribution in making his career successful.

“I have lived this dream not only for myself but also for brother Ajit. It is difficult to explain in words, the sacrifice he has made for me,” said Tendulkar to a gathered media in Mumbai.

“Words are not enough to describe Ajit’s role. Ajit felt relieved yesterday (Saturday) after looking at the crowd response. The kind of response I got from people was amazing,” said Tendulkar on the cheers he got before, during and after his farewell speech at Wankhede Stadium on Saturday.

“He was emotional as well as relaxed that it was over. The type of farewell I got cannot be planned, but that is how it unfolded according to almighty’s wish.

“When I woke up this morning, I realised I don’t need to get ready for the match. I made a good cup of tea and enjoyed my breakfast with my wife. It was a relaxed morning. A lot of people sent me messages so I spent my time replying to their messages”.

Indian batting legend Tendulkar went onto thank his family and the role they played in shaping his career from a very early age.

“The beauty of my family is that they didn’t lose balance irrespective of the fact that I scored a century or got a low score. The reason I performed well from school days is because there was a balance maintained at home that I could perform well on the field,” he added.

“Even when I scored a century only a box of sweets were bought. Their reaction to me whenever I came back from a tour was not on how I performed. Even during my farewell innings, my mother (Rajni) told me that she bought a box of sweets and kept it in front of God.”

Tendulkar said one of his passions away from cricket has been music. The Indian batting legend said that music has been one of his constant companions and he respected all the various musicians and composers.

“Music is my passion, I enjoy listening to songs. The choice of my songs depends on my mood. Music has been a constant companion. I respect the various musicians and composers. It is tough to reach the level they have reached and stay there for years and years and produce good music,” he said.
