It’s rare that Sachin Tendulkar’s childhood friends open up on him. But when they do, it’s sure interesting.
On Sunday, one of Tendulkar’s closest friends, Atul Ranade, said Tendulkar could pursue golf as a sport once he is done. “May be he’d play golf and I could be his caddie,” he said.
Ranade was speaking at a function where he unveiled a book of 200 slogans on Tendulkar compiled by father and son duo of Aju and Pratik Deshpande.
Not many know what Tendulkar does to prepare for a series. “The preparation of a champion is very different, according to the conditions. For instance, Sri Lanka’s climate is hot and humid.
Once, before a tour of Lanka, he switched off the AC of the Bandra-Kurla Complex indoor academy, opened the windows and batted in humid conditions. That’s how he prepares,” he said.
Tendulkar did not let criticism affect him. “He’d never read newspapers. In fact, we’d tell him what is written. He’d watch highlights of his game by muting the television set. He is a better critic of himself. He knows his stuff and works on it.”
Ranade thanked Tendulkar and Vinod Kambli for their 664-run partnership. “Because of that, I am also part of the world record as the whole score sheet was submitted to the Guinness Book of World Records with my name also in it.”
