Sachin Tendulkar, who will be conferred the Bharat Ratna, said he felt great to receive India’s highest civilian honour along with scientist CNR Rao.
“I also congratulate Professor CNR Rao for being awarded the Bharat Ratna. I feel great to be given this award alongside him,” said Tendulkar in press conference.
“He is a great man. It is just that his achievements don’t come out in front of thousands of people, but he has done some amazing work. His contribution is immense.”
Indian batting legend Tendulkar retired from all forms of cricket on Saturday after 24 glorious years in the game. It was announced that he will be conferred the Bharat Ratna.
He also went onto say that other sportspersons in India should also get the Bharat Ratna.
“I’m receiving this award on behalf of all Indian sportsman. There have been many great sportsmen and sportswomen in the country. I’ve heard their names since childhood and no one can ever forget their contribution,” he said.
“The award for me has opened gates for many sportsmen. Hopefully many other sportsmen are honoured with such awards and their contribution is appreciated. This is the ultimate award.”
