The organisers of the Indian Grand Prix have reportedly asked batting legend Sachin Tendulkar to wave the chequered flag at the end of the inaugural Indian Grand Prix this weekend.

A spokesman for the organizers was quoted in TOI as saying, “Sachin’s love for motorsport is well known, and he is also the biggest sporting icon of the country,” said a spokesman for the organisers. ” It’s only logical that we nominate him.”

Earlier it was reported in the wide sections of media that Indian batting legend Sachin Tendulkar was presented with another opportunity to visit the Formula One racing. He has been personally invited by F1 chief Bernie Ecclestone to watch India’s first Formula One Grand Prix at the Buddh International Circuit in Greater Noida.

An avid follower of Formula One, Tendulkar has been watching the race-driving sport since 2000. He was quoted in Mid Day as saying, “What you see on television is far different from what one sees at the venue,” said Tendulkar, who has been to quite a few races. “The noise and speed levels are 15 to 20 per cent greater that what one can imagine… its great.”
