Talented Indian batsman Ajinkya Rahane says he always considered Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid as his role models.
He said,” From childhood I [have been] following Sachin paaji and Rahul bhai [Dravid] – they’re both my role models.”
Rahane, who has been waiting eagerly to be named in playing XI, finally received an opportunity to feature in the Indian team on Saturday in the final ODI. But it never affected the batsman’s focus.
On being asked whether sitting on the bench too long affected his focus, he replied, “Not really because we keep learning from all the senior players. I always try and learn from Viru bhai [Virender Sehwag], Sachin paaji [Sachin Tendulkar] and [MS] Dhoni bhai. My focus is to just keep learning and doing well.”
Rahane, who play for the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Rajasthan Royals was the fourth highest run-scorer in the tournament with 560 runs.
The batsman said keeping things simple helped him score impressively in the T20 tournament. He was quoted by BCCI’s official website as saying, “I was just trying to keep it simple and was trying to play all the cricketing shots and that’s what I did.”
Rahane further added,” I always try and learn new things every day and my focus [is on] things that are in my hand.”
Rahane managed to score just nine runs in the fifth ODI on Saturday.
