Internationally acclaimed painter from Nashik, Prafull Bhimraj Sawant has been handed the job of preparing a painting by the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) which will be handed to Sachin Tendulkar as a parting gift after he appears in his 200th and final Test at the Wankhede stadium against the West Indies next month.
The 34-year-old Sawant was invited by MCA officials to fulfil an urgent request.
“Look I am not a die-hard cricket fan. Sachin Tendulkar is a famous name I know but ever since I was a kid, I have been painting all my life,” Sawant said, as reported by NDTV.
MCA President Sharad Pawar had recommended Sawant to MCA.
“I have met him [Sharad Pawar] once during an exhibition in Mumbai in 2010. He was very impressed with my work and bought a few to encourage me. His daughter [Supriya Sule] had also bought a painting for her mother. But this request for Sachin has been the greatest honour,” an excited Sawant said.
