The recently turned Rajya Sabha MP, Sachin Tendulkar has enthralled cricket fans for over two decades by his masterful batting. In his recent meeting with the players of Pratapgad Warriors team who are participating in the Maharashtra Premier League he captured their attention through his precious words. The audience took keen interest in the advice that the Little Master had to offer.
“Now that I am 39, I can call some of you youngsters,’’ Tendulkar said as his opening address to the players who had assembled.
Tendulkar advised the youngsters on how there are no short cuts to success, and that challenges eventually becomes a friend to cricketers.
On being asked what obsessed Tendulkar with the game for so long, Sachin was prompt to reply and said, “It was probably when I was 5 or 6 years old that I held a cricket bat for the first time. The passion came out of my heart first, then my mind took over and I began playing with a proper cricket ball. My brother Ajit played an immense role, and Ramakant Achrekar provided me opportunities to bat at No. 4 when I was in school.
“One must have the passion, passion to move in the right direction, and in this aspect Ajit and Achrekar played their roles. Challenges keep arising as you progress, and one must always take the extra step to meet the challenge and not go backward. You may have got eight out of the ten things right and hence you have to strive hard to get the remaining two things right and enjoy the success thereafter.’’
While talking about the pressure aspect of the game, he said, “At all levels, it’s a matter of doing the basics right. One cannot be perfect, and we all make mistakes. Once you accept this fact, then pressure becomes much less. The problem starts when one is scared to make mistakes. Secondly, temperament can be improved only in matches and not much in the nets. I would also advice you to take a break from the game, because overdose of anything is not good,’’
Tendulkar also showered praises on Ajay Shirke for his work n improving the sporting infrastructure in Maharashtra. “Two years ago he showed me the plans for a new stadium and now it’s a fabulous stadium. He has realised his dream and now it’s the responsibility of the Maharashtra cricketers to use the new facility, improve and bring better results for the state,’’ Tendulkar said as quoted by The Hindu.
