The much awaited Brian Lara Stadium will finally open on May 13 after all the delay. The first competitive match at the stadium will be nothing less than a dream come true. The ground will host a playing XI led by Lara against the playing XI led by India’s stalwart Sachin Tendulkar. The announcement was made on Thursday after the Cabinet press conference at Diplomatic Centre, St Ann’s. This match will be broadcast internationally, regionally as well as locally as per Trinidad and Tobago Sports Minister Darryl Smith. The tickets will be soon made available to the public for the event. Smith also mentioned that a fee scheme will be enrolled for which he is in talks with the Education Ministry. Brian Lara: Virat Kohli has got a stage set for him with Sachin Tendulkar

Last year, Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley pledged to complete the stadium. The Tarouba facility that is named in the honour of historic achievements by cricketing icon Lara, has been under controversy for a while. The stadium was to be made available for ICC World Cup 2007. However, it continued to be delayed due to cost overruns, as reported by trinidadexpress.com. The stadium will have capacity to seat 15,000 people. Lara and Tendulkar have always been compared with each other. Both had a brilliant career graph and the viewers will have an opportunity to revisit the batting moments of these players.

Lara played 131 Tests and assimilated 11,953 runs with 34 centuries to his name in his 16-year old career. Tendulkar, on the other hand, played 200 Tests amassing 15,921 runs that included 51 hundreds.
