India batsman Virat Kohli has been nominated in two categories for the ninth edition of the LG ICC Awards to be held in Colombo. He has been nominated for ICC Cricketer of the Year and ICC ODI Cricketer of the Year.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni is the other Indian player to be nominated in ICC ODI Cricketer of the Year category.

Six players have been nominated in three different categories for the ICC Awards. Saeed Ajmal, Hashim Amla, Michael Clarke, Kumar Sangakkara, Alastair Cook and Stafanie Taylor are the players nominated in all three categories.

Sachin Tendulkar has been nominated along with Kumar Sangakkara, Vernon Philander, Jacques Kallis and James Anderson fo LG people’s Choice Awards.

This year’s ICC awards include 11 individual prizes and also includes selection of Test and ODI Teams of the year.

ICC five-man selection panel comprises of Clive Lloyd, Carl Hooper, Tom Moody, Marvan Atapattu and Clare Connor.

The individual player awards will be selected by 32 cricket personalities from around the world. The personalities includes a host of former players and members of the media, representatives of the ICC Umpires and ICC Match Referees.

The 11 nominees for ICC’s Twenty20 International Performance of the Year include players from England, New Zealand, West Indies, South Africa and Pakistan.

Five players were nominated for ICC Spirit of Cricket Award. The nominees include Jacques Kallis, AB de Villiers, Mohammad Hafeez, Kieron Pollard and Daniel Vettori.

The David Shepherd Trophy for ICC Umpire of the Year is voted on by the captains and match referees based on the umpires’ performance.

The current edition of the awards also integrates selection and voting panels for the Women’s awards and includes two more award categories for women cricketers – ICC women’s ODI Cricketer of the Year and ICC Women’s T20I Cricketer of the Year.

“The LG ICC Awards presents a wonderful opportunity for the ICC, along with thousands of cricket fans, to acknowledge and reward the brilliant performances of the world’s best cricketers,” said ICC Chief Executive David Richardson.

“It is also a chance to look back on some of the great feats witnessed in the past year in international cricket across FTP Test and ODI series, numerous Associate and Affiliate Member fixtures, including the ICC World Twenty20 Qualifier 2012 plus the ICC Women’s World Cup Qualifier in 2011. This will be the ninth edition of the Awards and once again the voting academy will face a tough task in deciding who will be victorious on the night,” Richardson was quoted as saying by icc-cricket.com.
