The International Cricket Council (ICC) is planning to introduce sensors to monitor bowling actions during a game. These sensors would be worn by the bowlers on their bowling arms and will give a more accurate picture of the elbow straightening. This news has come out in the light of Saeed Ajmal’s suspension from bowling in international cricket after biomechanical tests revealed he exceeded the permissible 15-degree limit.

The Telegraph reported that the ICC has confirmed this development. These sensors will be worn by bowlers whom officials suspect have actions that are suspect. Thus, instead of being tested in a biomechanical laboratory, the authorities will get a more accurate picture in real-time game scenarios.

Ajmal was earlier on Tuesday banned by the ICC for having an action outside the permissible limit. The ICC’s statement said, “The International Cricket Council today [on Tuesday] confirmed that an independent analysis has found the bowling action of Pakistan’s off-spinner Saeed Ajmal to be illegal and, as such, the player has been suspended from bowling in international cricket with immediate effect. The analysis revealed that all his deliveries exceeded the 15 degrees level of tolerance permitted under the regulations.”
