Bollywood superstar Salman Khan is set to play the role of Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni in Mahesh Manjrekar’s Hindi remake of his own Marathi film Shikshanachya Aaicha Gho.

Media reports suggest that Salman has been calling off the decision to be a part of Manjrekar’s Hindi version. However, later he quickly decided to give time to Manjrekar as the Tamil version of Dhoni is about to be released.

In a jocular manner, Manjrekar said, “The current trend is that of Southern remakes in Hindi. So before someone in Bollywood buys the rights of Prakash’s Dhoni, which is a remake of my Marathi film, I will make the film with Salman, as planned.”

Manjrekar was happy to give the film rights to Prakash Raj for the Tamil remake of his film.

The film is about a teenage boy who is interested in cricket, however, faces academic pressure to pursue a career in his favourite sport.

“Prakash Raj is a friend. When he told me he wants to direct a Tamil version of my film, I readily agreed. The film has a strong message about our education system and I am only too happy to spread it,” Manjrekar was quoted as saying in MiD-Day.
