Sanju Samson was out for 49 but ensured Delhi Daredevils (DD) were on course for another win against Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) in Match 36 of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2016 at Mohali on Saturday. Samson and Quinton de Kock had earlier put on a belligerent 70 for the first wicket, with de Kock smashing an excellent half-century. However, de Kock was dismissed soon after reaching his landmark and hit a slower ball from Marcus Stoinis to Akshar Patel for a 30-ball 52 which included 6 fours and 2 sixes. New man Karun Nair kept rotating the strike, but Samson now took charge. Samson ended up making a 35-ball 49 with 4 fours and 1 six before mis-hitting Stoinis to Glenn Maxwell at long on. Earlier, Quinton de Kock and Sanju Samson put on an excellent half-century stand. The young DD opening batsmen made short work of the KXIP bowling in excellent fashion. The South African wicketkeeper was especially severe, as he hammered 52 runs off a mere 30 balls with 6 fours and 2 sixes. Stoinis may have scored a half-century but he was far from perfect. In Shahbaz Nadeem’s third over, which was the seventh of the innings, Stoinis and Amla were nearly out once respectively thanks to some terrible miscommunication. They were both saved because of mistakes by the fielders. Sadly for Amla, he was finally run out off the final ball of that same over.
